Experience the traditional water-borne artery of Southern Laos with an immersive full-day kayaking expedition on the majestic Mekong River. Heading down from Don Khong, this guided eco-tour cuts through pristine river environments revealing beautiful stands of old-growth forest, secluded riverbanks, and offering an intimate look at local fishing communities living on the islands.

10:00 AM : Kayaking Instructions & First Practice

The tour takes off at 10:00 AM from the boat landing at Ban Hatsaykhoun Village or from Don Khong Island. Meet your local guides on the banks of the Mekong River to receive high-quality equipment fitting, paddle safety instructions, and your first open-water practice handling the kayaks safely.

11:30 AM – 15:30 PM : Island Excursions & Phiengdee Village

Launch downstream into the river currents. We paddle past rich old-growth forests and dock along hidden river islands. Explore the local island villages to observe authentic, traditional Lao daily routines and fishing methods up close. We enjoy a freshly prepared local lunch along the way before navigating our final stretch to arrive at the welcoming shores of Phiengdee Village at 15:30 PM.

Preparation Checklist

What to bring: Wide-brimmed sun hat, sunglasses, waterproof sun-screen, active water shoes or footwear to get wet, lightweight clothes that can get wet, and a complete dry change of clothes for after the tour.

Inclusions & Exclusions

Included: Full local picnic lunch, bottled drinking water, professional English-speaking guide assistance, community station village guides, premium kayak and safety gear rentals, and local village admission entrance fees.
